Although I’m not thrilled with the name…..The assignment was to come up with 10 logo designs which represent both chemistry and ice cream, with out text. I was struggling on the last few. I’d love some feedback…. thanks
I know I mentioned this photo blog to my classmates at Full Sail University – Digital Storytelling class, but I wanted to share it with everyone. This is an amazing site that was created, is maintained and updated regularly by Brandon Stanton. Brandon is now on my people I hope to meet someday list. He has insight beyond his years. Not only does Brandon have an eye, that shows in his photography work, but he has an amazing heart and is one hell of a writer.
As simply as I can put it, Brandon takes photos of New Yorkers. But, He also tries to get a peek inside their being and share that with the visitors to his sight. I for one will say that he does one HELL of a job. I can’t just log in to peek at the photos he posts because I will get lost in there for hours. I am not complaining mind you. It is a wonderful place to wander. the stories about the people he meets touch my soul and yes I have cried many times while digging through the photos. The photos catch your eye, but the stories, they grab your heart. To me this is what art is all about. I hope that Brandon will get a sponsor or a patron, someone to pay him or his bills so that he can focus on this full time. This is just something that needs to continued to be shared with the world.
I hope you will take some time and spend it at Humans of New York site. Your soul will thank you for the rejuvenation, for a glimpse inside the humanity that most people overlook. Much Love and Many Blessings to you Brandon Stanton…. keep up your incredible and amazing work….
This is my favorite digital painting. It is the background on computer. I think it is absolutely beautiful. The artist is Ursula Vernon. I first became aware of her work many many years ago on Elfwood http://www.elfwood.com/ a SciFi & Fantasy community.
This site is a great place for people to share their science fiction and fantasy artwork. She has other pieces that are just as lovely. I had lost track of her work so I googled her today out of curiosity. She is doing just fabulous.
She has a web comic out called Digger http://www.diggercomic.com/ that has won a Hugo award. She is also the author and illustrator of her own children’s books her first book is titled Nurk: The Strange Surprising Adventures Of A (Somewhat) Brave Shrew and has a series called Dragon Breath and two fantasy novels Black Dogs: The House of Diamond and Black Dogs: The Mountain of Iron. In doing more research on her I also found that one of her works had become an internet sensation and was turned into a meme. A piece called The Biting Pear of Salamanca http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/lolwut and has made it as an entry in the Urban Dictionary http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=lol%20wut%20pear
I haven’t had a chance to see any of the books as of yes, but I think that is wonderful to see how far she has come. It give hope that with perseverance and hard work what can be accomplished. I wanted to share her work because it was something that made me smile and every time I see it….. I find new things. I hope you will enjoy her work as well. She is an inspiration to me. I hope some of you will feel free to comment with artist who inspire you. I’d love to see it.
Well fall has officially arrived. I for one can’t stand the color weather. I have often thought of moving somewhere warm, perhaps even Florida.
But, then I think of the four seasons. I am lucky enough to live in Western Pennsylvania. For those of you who may not be aware, this is one of the best places to live to view the changes of the seasons. The photo I placed above is from the Czech Republic. The photographer did an amazing job capturing the four seasons with the same tree.
Of course my favorite colors are those of fall. The gorgeous crimsons, deep oranges, bright yellows; the trees appear to be on fire and it spreads like a blanket over the hills.
Fall was my mother’s favorite time of the year. My mother was from Webster Springs, West Virginia. To my mother “home” was the best place in the world to see the leaves change. I can still hear her say” I can’t wait to get home I just love seeing the changing of the leaves.” Sometimes, Mom would escape from the life of five children and go home for a weekend, when the leaves would start to change.
At times when she couldn’t go, she might suggest a visit to my father’s mother. She’d say” Let’s take the scenic route.” I knew that mean we would drive the long way through the farm lands as slow as we could, so we could enjoy the colors of fall.
When my mother became older and ill, she was unable to drive to enjoy her colors. My father knowing how much my mother loved and missed going home. Found a little house by a creek with about a dozen trees so she could sit out on the porch and take delight in them without going far.
My mother‘s birthday is Tuesday (October 10th) It will be four years now since she left us. Just three days after her birthday. Not a day goes by that she isn’t missed. I thank her for giving me the opportunity to experience the miraculous changing of the seasons with her. I especially thank her for giving me so many memories to comfort me with her loss.
When I see a tree decked out in its magnificent fall finery, those stunning colors ablaze on the branches. I think of her. I know she is admiring them from heaven. I love you Mom! Thank you.
